The Day I Chose Wellness: My Imperfect Self-Care Journey
5/10/20253 min read
Somewhere between juggling responsibilities, caring for others, and trying to hold it all together, I realized something quietly but powerfully — I had drifted away from myself.
I wasn’t falling apart, not in any obvious way. But I felt off-tired, drained and overwhelmed.
Not just physically, but deep-in-my-bones tired. My energy felt low, my mind foggy, and no amount of rest seemed to help. I was showing up for life, but not really living it. Always waiting for a better time — a more convenient season — to finally take care of myself.
That quiet moment of truth became a turning point.
It wasn’t loud or dramatic. But it changed everything.
🌱 Why I Started Prioritizing My Wellness Journey
I didn’t crave a dramatic makeover.
I didn’t want another rigid routine to fail.
I just wanted to feel alive again — not just functional.
I wanted slow mornings. Deep breaths. Clarity.
I wanted to reconnect with my body, mind, and energy in small, doable ways.
That’s why I started My Wellness Haven.
Not as a wellness guru. But as a real woman choosing to come home to herself.
If you're somewhere on your own path — craving more balance, healing, or maybe just a breath of peace — you’re not alone. And you’re in the right place.
🌸 What Wellness Means to Me Now
Wellness used to mean strict plans, perfect meals, and pushing harder.
Now? It means listening — really listening — to what my body and mind are asking for.
🌿 Washing my face with warm water and actually noticing how it felt
👣 Stepping outside first thing in the morning and letting the morning sun hit my face while I watered my plants.
💧 Drinking water before coffee (surprisingly effective for natural energy)
🙆♀️ Stretching gently before I check my phone
☕ Trying supportive additions — like a metabolism-boosting coffee blend
🕯️ Lighting a candle, slowing down, and letting my mornings be mine
Some days, self-care looks like journaling my messy thoughts. Other days, it’s baking banana bread, tossing in extra chocolate chips, and calling it therapy—and yes, that counts too.
And then there are days I just sit quietly by the window, cup of tea in hand, watching the wind dance through the trees... and that’s more than enough.
I’ve stopped chasing the perfect routine — and started honoring what actually helps.
Wellness isn’t about doing it all. It’s about tuning in.

If this resonates with you, I shared more reflections on how I’m learning to let go of perfection in my self-care journey in this next post.

It's about…
✨ Embracing slow mornings and gentle starts
✨ Choosing hydration before caffeine
✨ Moving with intention, not punishment
✨ Eating food that nourishes, not depletes
✨ Creating sustainable wellness habits
✨ Giving myself permission — to rest, to pause, to be imperfect
And that last one? It’s everything.
🕊️ Creating My Wellness Haven: A Blog for Real Women on a Real Journey
I didn’t create this space because I have all the answers.
I created it because I’m still asking the questions — and showing up anyway.
My Wellness Haven is where I share what I’m learning as I build a kinder, more realistic relationship with wellness.
Not from a place of “figuring it all out” — but from a place of curiosity, self-compassion, and hope.
